The Butterfly Effect

The first time I ever sent a newsletter to this email list…

It was 2022.

I was on a 9-hour train ride between Madrid and Paris while backpacking Europe.

I’d handwritten nearly 250 pages in a journal…

And was starting to get the feeling to share this writing with the world.

But there were many internal blockages and fear coming up around being that vulnerable.

So on this long train ride, I decided to write up my first newsletter titled “The Weekend Drift” after a handful of synchronicities like meeting an inspiring artist from Italy, finding a new writer on Instagram by the name of Dakota Roberston who reminded me of myself, and listening to Seth Godin drop a banger quote in his book Lynchpin which sealed the deal:

That line stuck, and so I said F*CK IT, texted about 25 friends and family members, and asked if they wanted to be on my email list.

A few said no – which stung.

But most said yes, and a few sent such encouraging messages, which I took as inspiration to keep going and as confirmation that I was on the right path.

Now I was in the arena.

I was a digital writer!

I had no idea wtf I was doing.

But now The Butterfly Effect was now in play…

Since sending that first email in July 2022…

My life completely transformed.

Here’s a quick summary of all that’s happened since:

• Began writing on twitter

• Started ghostwriting

• Dropped out of college and moved to Buenos Aires

• Lived in Buenos Aires & Costa Rica for the next year or so

• Moved to Austin & met my soul tribe

• Launched a few cohorts & worked at Kortex with some big players

• Put the creator economy on the shelf to backpack Thailand (and had the best summer of my life… BY FAR)

• Went to the jungle of Peru to sit with ayahuasca 5 times and left changed forever

• Visited Austin again and took a solo retreat to Hawaii

• Returned to college here in Illinois to play quarterback!

Post this year of college, I’m eyeing a move to Mykonos, and I feel blessed to say that a corporate job is not in the equation anymore.

One tiny decision to click publish created a ripple effect in the universe that changed my reality.

If I hadn’t decided to send that newsletter, and even at a deeper level, backpack Europe, it’s very likely I’d be sitting in a 9-5 corporate finance job.

If I hadn’t said f*ck it repeatedly and clicked send on twitter, signed up for a ghostwriting cohort, started a podcast, sent DMs to sign clients, and moved to Argentina to do this thing full time, writing would have just stayed a side hobby and a passion project and not something that I could create a career around.

Now I’m writing this in my apartment with a coffee in hand and music playing as I get ready to hit a yoga class, run a live cohort call for Transcendence, and continue to build out and prepare for the launch of The Conscious Creator Accelerator.

I couldn’t have seen the various businesses I’d build or the adventures I’d go on when I first clicked publish on that long train ride in 2022.

But not knowing where you’ll end up is the nature of the butterfly effect.

One f*ck it decision, oriented in the direction of your higher self, creates a domino effect in the universe and catapults you into a new reality.

A plane leaving New York aiming for Los Angeles ends up in Mexico if its trajectory shifts by only 5 degrees at takeoff.

Similarly, one decision to shift your life today, be it signing up for the gym, ordering a book, or writing a blog online creates a huge impact that we cannot fully comprehend 3-5 years from now.
